Biographical Notes

Scott Holleran is a freelance reporter with an interest in the central issues of our age.

Holleran was among the first reporters allowed into the Miami, Florida, home of Elian Gonzalez's relatives. Holleran arranged for an exclusive visit with the Gonzalez family during their meeting with former 12-year-old Soviet defector Walter Polovchak and Holleran met young Elian days before the child was seized by federal agents in a pre-dawn raid.

At the height of the Elian Gonzalez saga, Holleran met and observed Elian and his Miami family and reported on the exclusive for several national newspapers. Holleran also covered the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in 2000 and conducted a series of personal interviews with each presidential candidate for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Holleran began writing news, sports, feature and entertainment articles for the Glendale News-Press in 1991, after serving as a congressional assistant in Illinois and Washington, DC, for six years. Holleran's articles have been published in the Wall Street Journal, Miami Herald, the Los Angeles Times, and Hispanic magazine.

The independent journalist, who writes regularly for several newspapers and Web sites, has interviewed and profiled everyone from pop singer Olivia Newton-John to Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Halberstam.
