Biographical Notes
Scott
Holleran is a freelance reporter with an
interest in the central issues of our age.
Holleran
was among the first reporters allowed into
the Miami, Florida, home of Elian Gonzalez's
relatives. Holleran arranged for an
exclusive visit with the Gonzalez family
during their meeting with former 12-year-old
Soviet defector Walter Polovchak and
Holleran met young Elian days before the
child was seized by federal agents in a
pre-dawn raid.
At
the height of the Elian Gonzalez saga,
Holleran met and observed Elian and his
Miami family and reported on the exclusive
for several national newspapers. Holleran
also covered the Democratic and Republican
National Conventions in 2000 and conducted a
series of personal interviews with each
presidential candidate for the Philadelphia
Inquirer.
Holleran
began writing news, sports, feature and
entertainment articles for the Glendale
News-Press in 1991, after serving as a
congressional assistant in Illinois and
Washington, DC, for six years. Holleran's
articles have been published in the Wall
Street Journal, Miami Herald, the Los
Angeles Times, and Hispanic magazine.
The
independent journalist, who writes regularly
for several newspapers and Web sites, has
interviewed and profiled everyone from pop
singer Olivia Newton-John to Pulitzer
Prize-winning author David Halberstam.
