New restrictions imposed by the U.S. on the movements of Cuban diplomats

According to Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart's press release faxed (November 18, 2001), he commended to President Bush for the new restrictions imposed by the U.S. on the movements of Cuban diplomats "effective immediately." These are the following restrictions:

1. Movements of Cuban dictatorship diplomats will be severely restricted in Washington & New York.

2. Any movements by Cuban dictatorship diplomats outside that area, are subject to stric 72 hour prior notification and authorization requirements.

3. No visas will be issued to Cuban dictatorship officials for travel to anywhere in the U.S. outside of Washington, D.C. and New York City.

It also says, "For the past 8 years, Cuban dictatorship officials have enjoyed great freedom of movement inside the United States.  U.S. diplomats, however, are denied reciprocal treatment and are subject to severely controlled movement in Cuba.

"I commend President Bush for these new restrictions on Castro's so-called diplomats in the United States and for ending the blatant double standard that existed previously in the movement permitted of Castro diplomats here compared to U.S. diplomats in Cuba," said Diaz-Balart.
