URGENT APPEAL SIGNED BY EX- CUBAN POLITICAL
PRISONERS
Miami.
January 7, 2004
We, the undersigned, former Cuban political
prisoners (Historic Political Prisoners)
hereby inform of the present critical
situation in the island of the Cuban
political prisoner, Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet.
This Cuban physician is a non-violent
opponent of the Cuban dictatorship, who was
recently condemned to 25 years in prison for
promoting the respect of human rights in
Cuba and for publicly denouncing the
government´s constant violations of the
rights of the Cuban people.
Dr. Biscet is confined in a dungeon-like
cell with no windows or sufficient
ventilation, no medical assistance,
suffering from malnutrition, not allowed to
have visits or any contact with the outside
world and deprived of having access to
natural sunlight. His health is rapidly
deteriorating due to the cruel punishments
imposed upon him by the Cuban Correctional
System.
We appeal to the international community on
behalf of Dr. Biscet and all Cuban political
prisoners suffering deplorable and inhumane
conditions for defending pro democracy
ideals in
Cuba.
NOTE: This appeal appeal was sent worldwide
to all human rights organizations,
governments and leaders of democratic
nations, as well as an extensive list of
individuals and groups associated with the
defense of human rights.
